Description
If you need to replace your touch box stoppers, please let me know the size of the hole at the end of touch box. Though the holes are all drilled with the same drill bit, they are then tapered using a rat tail rasp. The tapering opens the hole to different sizes. To get a good fit I need to know the size of the hole at the nipple of the box lid.
I will provide some string with each stopper and I would advise you tie them down to something. I tie mine to the string on the touch box itself. If there is a loop around the string, it will slide up and down the touch box string, making it easier to remove and replace the stopper. Some drill a hole through the top of the stopper. I have not seen any like this in museums so I don’t do it but that is no reason ignore the security of this. If you are of the practical type, you will decide a soldier would have done that anyway; it makes sense.
I only send stoppers in pairs. They are not expensive and a spare might well come in handy. You can of course order more than one pair.
