Description
This string is made of hemp and has been tarred. There are many strings on original bandoliers and they can all be viewed in collections but the description often carries the caveat ‘Restrung for display’ or some such thing. For this reason we can never be quite sure if the string is correct. I’ve even read primary source references as ‘tape’. My string has been chosen because it is still used by Italian fishermen as it is good in the wet but also because it could have been made in the C17th. Because the string is not found in modern use, it also gives that unique period look.
I recommend renewing the string annually to ensure the boxes don’t fall due to worn out string.
